California Senate Bill No. 1386
The California Senate Bill No. 1386, enacted in July 2003, applies to all organisations conducting business in the state of California, and stipulates that in the event of any breach in privacy of electronic data held about customers, all those affected must be informed.
NGSSoftware's database auditing tool NGSSQuirreL provides an in depth security test of servers containing sensitive customer data. Mis-configurations, excessive privileges and missing security patches can be quickly detected and fixed. Performing frequent vulnerability scans greatly reduces the risk of compromise of sensitive customer information, and the potentially negative resultant publicity an announcement would generate.
